With Original Images, Videos and Text by Leonard Chia

Beginning on Friday 19 May 2006, a series of 4 Star Wars Weekends (Fridays to Sundays) is ongoing at Disney-MGM Studios in Orlando (USA), ending Sunday 11 June 2006. With much fortune, I happened to be in the vicinity on Saturday 20 May 2006.

From early morning, visitors trooped through the gates of the theme park under the watchful eyes of the Stormtrooper sentry. In fact, many Star Wars fans had gathered outside the theme park prior to its opening at 9am, ready to soak up a day of fun and enjoyment with their favourite Star Wars celebrities and characters… and not forgetting Mickey and gang

In our runup towards the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars Episode IV : A New Hope in 2007 , http://www.starwars.sg/ held the first of many Roadshows to come on 21st May 2006 at China Square Centre .

The starwars.sg team had known for quite some time that I had been running charity auctions my own on http://www.yahoo.com.sg/ in aid of the Bethany Children's Orphanage in Myanmar, which is a charity which I personally support. " Why not come down and run a charity sale in conjunction with our roadshow? " came the invitation from the big-hearted starwars.sg team.

In addition to that invitation came an overwhelming deluge of support from my dear friends from http://www.starwars.sg// , from manpower in lugging 10 huge plastic boxes full of Star Wars collectibles all the way to our stall at China Square Centre, to setting up a wonderful table display of Star Wars collectibles , to many who came in Star Wars costumes to lend a festive air to the Roadshow AND more importantly , to draw the huge crowds to our charity stall !

BREAKING NEWS : Original theatrical versions of Classic Trilogy to be released on DVD! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Daniel Chia

Finally ! Some " insider" news your starwars.sg team heard about several weeks ago can be officially confirmed .  Come 12th September 2006, Lucas will release the THEATRICAL versions of the Classic Trilogy , the versions you saw on big screen when you were young, WITHOUT all the CGI changes and changes in scenes ( which means Greedo gets to shoot first ! ) on DVD .... the first time the films will be available in this format.

The only time the theatrical versions were released were on VHS and old laserdisc versions, long out of print, and fans worldwide will be cheering for the chance to see the well loved films in a version we remember .

It will be good to see A New Hope when it was just called Star Wars , which was released in 1977 with a diifferent title crawl then what we saw more recent versions available on DVD.

"Star Wars," "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" will each be released in two-disc versions containing the original theatrical version along with the 2004 digitally remastered version.
The DVD reissues will be released with the September 12 debut of "Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy Game" and be available only until the end of the year.

Start saving up !

Tell us what you think ... would you buy the DVDs of the theatrical versions ?

If you’ve ever bought Gentle Giant’s (GG) deluxe Stormtrooper or Sandtrooper bust, you’ve probably got a few extra arms and weapons lying in the box, gathering dust. Well, now it’s time to whip them out and convert a Kotobukiya (Koto) Sandtrooper into some thing unique.
